THE IMPACT
All buildings built before 1974 and with 6 or more units would be eligible- that's over 1/4 of Albany's renters!
Thousands of renters in Albany will be eligible, and statewide campaigns are pushing to expand eligibility to even more tenants.
TENANTS TAKE BACK CONTROL
The Emergency Tenant Protection Act allows cities across New York State to opt-into rent stabilization.
This would create a Rent Guidelines Board, mostly consisting of tenants and community members, to decide a fair change in rent for each year.

In Albany, rents have risen more than 15% since 2020. 35% of renters in Albany are rent burdened, meaning over 30% of income goes to rent alone.
